The V5 Soft Starter range now has a model lineup that includes Integral Bypass

Power Electronics have recently released the latest range of V5 soft starters incorporating integral bypass contactors for models from 4.5kW (9 amps) thru to 1000kW (1200 amps) in both 400V and 690V. This new range compliments the existing V5. This development is of great benefit to customers wanting to install the V5 into cabinets or applications where the heat losses of a traditional soft starter present an issue. The internal bypass contactor is automatically switched on after the acceleration period is completed bridging out the SCRs. When the internal bypass is activated there is no interruption to the normal operation or protections features of the V5. Once bypassed the heat dissipation from the V5 is almost zero eliminating the need for any external ventilation systems or oversized cabinets.

The capacity limitation of soft starters is mainly a thermal constraint. The utilization of an internal bypass contactor means the V5 soft starter can be sized for the correct starting current requirements only, as the normal running currents are passing through the bypass contactor and not the SCRs. This allows for the selection of a V5 soft start to be more closely matched to a specific application. For many applications this may allow a smaller V5 soft starter to be used.

SD700 Series Fully EMC Compliant with UNSCREENED motor cables
– the first VSD in the world to do so

One of the key topics discussed at our recently held Technical Seminars (see below) was EMC compliance. A huge amount of interest was generated when it was revealed that the SD700 series of variable speed drives can meet the EN 61800-3: 1996 and EN 61800- 3/A11: 2002 EMC regulations whilst using up to 300M of unscreened cable on the VSD output.

The unique hardware architecture of the SD700 permits this to be done. Installation in this manner cannot guarantee standards conformance when using any other brand of VSD currently available. Whilst compliance to these regulations can be self certified, Power Electronics have engaged an independent specialist electrical test laboratory, Insituto de Technologia Electrica, to verify their results.

A copy of the test reports and further details on installation requirements are available on request.

SD700 Range Complete

The recent release of frame one and frame two sizes in the high performance SD700 series has seen the standard product range completed. Frame one consists of models from 2.2kW to 11kW and frame two 15kW to 22kW.

These two new frame sizes share the same advanced technology as the larger models, incorporating features such as integral harmonic filters, dv/dt filters, RFI filtering and come in either IP20 or IP54 formats. A 125% re-rating applies when utilising the SD700 series for variable torque loads such as centrifugal pumps or fans and screw compressors.

Frame one and two also benefit from ground breaking new technology that permits the use of up to 300m of unscreened motor cables whilst meeting all relative EMC standards.

You can download a complete SD700 series product brochure from the product page.
